§ ¶What's this thing??
I had to have a medical procedure done over two weeks ago. When I woke up, I was still under the effects of drugs, so I don't remember anything that happened. Aaron said he gave me my hearing aid and cochlear implant. I immediately put my hearing aid on, no problem, but the CI took a little longer. He said I was looking at it confusedly, trying to figure out the volume and how to put it on. I guess a lifetime of wear trumps only a year!Today I brought my new processor, the Harmony, to get hooked up. Becca and Megan both joined me this time. The first thing Sharon did was test me in the sound booth with the program I walked in with. The results were consistent with last time, though I did slightly better on the HINT sentences. Last time, I got 30/104. This time I got 35/103. I didn't realize until at least halfway into it that Sharon could repeat the sentences, so I started taking advantage of that too late.
With the new High Fidelity program, Sharon was unable to access specific channels or frequencies the way she can with the other program. This was kind of a pain since, well, I was getting a little pain from the program and it was harder to figure out where it was coming from. We did a little manipulation somehow and it went away. I ended up with the program I walked in with, and two versions of High Fidelity, with one being a little louder than the other. I'm going to stick with this and see if I can notice a difference in sound quality. It might take a while, but should prove interesting.
P.S. I already posted the above, but had to add this. I just poured popcorn kernels into a bowl to nuke, and then stopped cold. I touched my processor, thinking something had happened to it. Aaron, who was standing nearby, laughed. He walked over, picked up the bowl and shook it again. That's the weird sound I heard! I then reverted to my old program to see what it sounded like. I could hear the kernels, but definitely not the way I can with the High Fidelity. I can't say whether it's better, but the fact that it's more noticeable is a good thing. I just don't like how it sounds! Okay, I'm off to make the popcorn now!
