§ ¶I'm not the only student
A week ago today was my last rehab session with Megan. As a graduate student in audiology, she's done with this semester's clinical rotation. I really enjoyed working with Megan, who said that our sessions were the highlight of her week (thanks, babe!). We were sad to end our working relationship, but were relieved to discover that we both wanted to continue it socially. Maybe when we meet for coffee, I can enlist her in an impromptu session - just kidding!I asked Reva if I could continue with rehab next semester, and she said yes. She asked if the sessions have been helping, and I said absolutely. It's nice to be working with someone one-on-one formally to help my progress along, even if it's just an hour a week.
As for my last session with Megan, we ended on a great note. I felt like I did really well. We went through some things we had done at our first meeting so that we could compare the results as well as have a starting point for January. Megan sent me a couple of graphs she made that illustrate my progress. One exercise we did involved her saying completely random words without any context. I had to tell her what I thought I heard, even if it was just one sound. Needless to say, this was so hard! I correctly identified 21 percent of the sounds, which was pretty good for my first try. I definitely wouldn't have gotten nearly as much without my CI.
Megan also did a case study on me for one of her classes and sent me her analysis, some of which I've included here. It's neat seeing graphical representations of how I'm doing; it helps reinforce that I AM doing well.
In fact, those two songs I said I heard on the kids' CD? I've consistently been recognizing them when they start playing. What a great feeling!
